Rather than depending on endless repetition and drills, kids in the Marin Mandarin Summer Camp will learn Mandarin through activities they enjoy. Your kids can learn Mandarin while having fun learning magic tricks, pretending to be different animals, playing sports, acting in skits, making arts & crafts, and participating in Chinese cultural activities.
This camp offers beginning conversational Mandarin for brand new learners and kids who have learned for a year or two. The camp will include a weekly lion dance introduction.

Week 1: Magnificent Magic July 7 – 11
Who can resist a little magic? In this session, campers will learn to perform some basic card tricks, and then will put on a magic show at the end of the week. They will learn Mandarin related to card tricks such as numbers and colors, words such as “below” and “between”, verbs such as “cut”, “show”, or “take”, and other relevant phrases. And then they’ll get to show off their Mandarin and their magic at the end of the week performance!
Week 2: Animal Antics July 14 – 18
Animals come in all shapes, colors and sizes…and they find lots of amazing ways to survive! We will explore the curious, creepy, and often fantastic survival strategies used by animals. Language for the week will include review of language from Magnificent Magic such as numbers and colors, plus phrases related to size, texture, and action. They will present a short animal story at the end of the week.
Week 3: Act It Out! July 21 – 25
Kids love to act and participate in skits. During the week, campers will learn to express emotions in Mandarin while creating their own funny skits. Language for the week will include vocabulary related to emotions and interactions. Come see the show on Friday!
